The members of the band Muna are locked in a heated debate over Zoom.
“I’m form of the bare one within the band,” Katie Gavin says.
“I’m possibly probably the most clothed,” provides Naomi McPherson.
“Probably not,” Josette Maskin counters. “Not within the video.”
“Nicely, yeah, I forgot about that,” McPherson concurs. “Oops. Nicely, now I’m the bare one. Fuck.”
As we speak, the emotive dark-pop Los Angeles band returns after practically 4 years to announce their forthcoming album, Dancing on the Wall—and with that, the discharge of the titular lead single. Since Muna launched their self-titled album, the trio has undergone an evolution of sound, model, and spirit—one which’s introduced them nearer to house and far deeper into themselves.

The track, they are saying, is a bridge between the euphoric pop sounds of their 2017 debut About U and Muna (2022) and the introspective, punkier tones they established on 2019’s Saves the World. Dancing on the Wall, in line with the band, is a return to type. “It feels actually near the values and visible world of our first album, besides that we’re returning to that with each extra self-knowledge and the next talent set,” Gavin says.
“It’s additionally about understanding who we’re,” Maskin provides.
